Flying Fish

Flying Fish is designed to expose older Morning Program children to all aspects of sailing.  On most Mondays and Wednesdays (depending on weather), this group will separate from the traditional Morning Program and work with a sailing instructor primarily on the Hobie Waves. The program will include a variety of sailing activities including rigging instruction, knot tying, discussion of boat parts, and of course sailing.

On non-sailing days, Flying Fish includes daily instruction in swimming, lawn games, arts & crafts, beach play, and story time. Swimming instruction will cover basic skills including rhythmic breathing, swimming, freestyle the length of the pool, elementary backstroke, back float, simple dives and underwater swimming.

Parents will need to provide a lifejacket for their child on Mondays and Wednesdays. Participants must pass a basic swim test. Regrettably, due to other commitments, we will be unable to offer make-ups for this program should it be cancelled due to weather but we expect Flying Fish to sail at least 10 days over the summer. These kids will participate in the regularly scheduled morning program activities in the case of poor weather.

Children in Flying Fish are typically intend to join the sailing program the following summer.

Age: Children must be 7 years old by December 31 of the calendar year in order to participate in Flying Fish. If there is space available, preference will be given to the oldest Morning Program Campers. Children in Flying Fish typically intend to join our Junior Sailing program the following summer.

Meeting Place: Clubhouse lawn
